Take your time. You can try again.

Which point is on the line y = 2x + 4?

Get a hint

The first number is x. Put it into the rule to find y.

See the answer and why
(1, 6)

When x = 1, y = 2 × 1 + 4 = 6.

Your next round

The line y = 2x + 4 crosses the y-axis at 4.x ranges from -10 to 10; y ranges from -10 to 10. Each small grid square is one unit on both axes. Points include x 0, y 4; x 1, y 6. -10-50510-10-50510xy

How Functions practice works

A function rule tells you which output y goes with an input x. A graph draws those pairs as points. In the matching game, choose the graph that follows the given rule.

Read the rule, then look for its shape

For y = 2x + 4, the graph crosses the y-axis at 4. Each step of 1 to the right raises y by 2. Those two clues help you tell it apart from lines with a different slope or starting height.

See how it works

y = 2x + 4

When x = 0, y = 4. When x = 1, y = 6. The matching line passes through both (0, 4) and (1, 6).

y = x²

Both x = 2 and x = −2 give y = 4. Its U-shaped graph is symmetric around the y-axis, unlike a straight line.

The first button starts with straight lines. Choose a lesson below to explore other shapes, such as U-shaped curves and waves. Each lesson links to its own practice. You can also match a rule to a graph or find values.
