How Decimals practice works

The digits after the decimal point show parts of a whole. Keep their place value in mind as you add, subtract, multiply or divide. Start a two-minute Session with decimal questions.

Keep track of the size of each part

Add or take away parts of the same size. When you multiply or divide, check how the size changes. Multiplying by a number below one can make the answer smaller.

0.4 + 0.3 = 0.7

Four tenths plus three tenths makes seven tenths. This uses the same addition fact as 4 + 3 = 7.

0.6 × 0.4 = 0.24

Six tenths times four tenths makes twenty-four hundredths. The result is smaller than 0.6 because you are taking only four tenths of it.
